Smart Watches
Huawei’s Honor brand announced several new products at IFA 2020 including the Honor Watch GS Pro and Honor Watch ES smart watches.
Both watches are aimed at fitness-conscious consumers with the ES including animations of different exercises that can be done at home and basic water resistance, and the GS Pro being a more ruggedized model marketed at those who enjoy more vigorous outside activities like snowboarding and skiing. The GS Pro comes with a built-in GPS and a blood oxygen sensor.
Both watches make bold claims about battery life with the GS Pro claiming 25 days and the ES claiming 10 days, neither of which seems likely in the wild unless every feature but the watch itself is turned off.
Since Honor is a Huawei company and Huawei has been banned by Google, it’s no surprise that these watches can’t run Watch OS and use a proprietary Honor operating system.
Laptops and tablets
Honor also announced the new AMD-powered laptop Honor MagicBook Pro and the Honor Pad 6, and Honor Pad X6 tablets, which run on a Chinese Kirin 710A processor.
The 90% and 80% screen to body ratio of the laptop and tablets respectively was highlighted on the show, but that looks standard to us. The tablets feature an eBook mode that aim to increase ratio and make the screen a little bit more book like (something like the appearance of a Kindle but with a still active backlight).
