Robert in Miami calling in with the AskDave button on our site”Question about Windows 11. Have you guys had a chance to look at it? What have you heard about it? What do you think about it? It’s supposedly going to be Android app compatible. What do you think? Sounds interesting to me.”
Robert, we havent installed any Windows 11 betas, but going by what Microsoft is currently highlighting it doesnt look revolutionary.
At the moment theyre mainly advertising better video conferences, more curated content in the UI, a new UI overall, the ability to snap windows to the corners of the screen in new ways, and some gaming features, so what gets released with the first production version may be less than what was originally promised and more may come with later updates.
The Android app compatibility is arguably the most interesting feature, at least for touch screen computers. If youre sitting at the computer and using a mouse and a keyboard there will be more natural ways to get things done, but on a touch screen device apps are a natural choice.
The new UI doesnt seem terribly different, but the macOS style, centered dock that theyre moving to can be more comfortable on large screens, so that may be a win if you work with larger high resolution displays.
