Russell asked: “What type of smartphone should I get? I only use a flip phone from Verizon.”
Russell, just about any will be better than a flip phone…
No matter which smartphone you pick, you will find a little bit of a learning curve, but nothing too bad. Smartphones are very intuitive.
In fact, they’re intuitive enough that toddlers figure them out without anyone teaching them.
When it comes to picking your first one, you will find a big issue that will probably impact your decision right away: the price.
You will find glass little rectangles with price tags under $100, and little glass rectangles that may even exceed $1000. They’re not all equal.
Flagship smartphones tend to start at around $600 or $700, and they tend to be much better than entry level version. You may notice the less expensive ones may be a little sluggish, and may get more sluggish as time goes by.
As far as Android vs Apple, you can ignore Apple if you’re interested in trying a cheaper phone first, Android has less expensive versions, Apple starts at a high price.
This is your first smartphone, if you’re not sold on the idea of spending a laptop’s worth of money on a new device, you can try a less expensive one for a while and see how you adapt. You’re used to your phone being just a phone, so you may not want all the extra bells and whistles. Just keep in mind that, as with most things, with phones you tend to get what you pay for.
