We Help Listener Mason With A Tethering Question

Mason in Shelby, North Carolina wants to know how he can share his phone's connection

Tethering on Android

Mason asked: I’m looking to see if there’s a possible way to tether a phone to a laptop so it becomes like a mobile hotspot.

You typically skip the laptop altogether when you want to use a phone as a hotspot. Just about every modern smartphone can share its connection (assuming the carrier allows it).

The setting on the phone will differ, but it’s usually just called “tethering” or “personal hotspot” and depending on the phone it may allow just a few devices to connect – think 4 or 5 – or considerably more – think 8 or 10.

Keep in mind that the data you use while tethered will typically count against your data plan, against a tethering only pool, or against your bank account, so do find out what your plan does or does not include.
